In 2018, live music venues are under threat as long as ‘Agent of Change’ bill will not become a law. Small music venues under the capacity of 350 are keep disappearing because of increasing business rate, noise complaints, planning and development in the neighbourhood of them. In 2017, 75% of music fans chose small music venue for live music. According to the Music Venue Trust, the number of small music venues in the UK has fallen from around 700 to 450 in the past decade.
Womanby Street is a place to 5 small music venues, and all of those venues were facing closure as JD Weatherspoon’s hotel wanted to open their first hotel in Cardiff but also the land next to Clwb Ifor Bach was planned to become a space for new flats. Save Womanby Street campaign was launched to protect those venues. The main event of SWS campaign was the march on city hall which seen 2000 people attending and made it the biggest protest in the history of Cardiff.
